The forces of eternal darkness

Its time to fight those forces of eternal darkness again.... I am talking about the money grabbing fat cat developers, and to do so, I need to get onto my soapbox again. hold on...

Ok am on
Once again there is a select group of rich people, who want to get richer, and therefore are aiming to start development on the Sea Point Promenade. This can not be allowed to happen!!! The promenade is a public recreational area for the city of Cape Town. Lord knows, we have little enough of these places as it is!!! It should be used by joggers, runners, dog walkers, families and the general public. Not closed to residents only.

Now I can already hear the economic wanna-b's saying things like, "its only a small part of the Promenade", or "it will bring in lots of money for the city".

Well, the thing is, once we allow developers to start building on the promenade, it is going to be impossible to stop it. Pretty soon the entire promenade will be reserved for the residents of the over priced apartments that are built there. Also, the money that will be coming in to the city, will be from yet another foreigner which hikes the house prices again, and once more, South Africans can not afford to buy houses!!!

I would like to know how Helen "Godzilla" Zille managed to halt the building of an International stadium because of budget concerns, but has no problem whatsoever to ok this development. Is there some German kickback in terms of amount of apartments sold to family? Honest question...

Point is, to help save the Promenade, got to this website, and sign the petition. Even if you don't live in Cape Town or even South Africa. Natural, public, recreational areas should stay public and natural.....
