Michael Jackson 1958 - 2009

This morning for the first time since his departure, I was really sad. Was listening to the radio and heard some of his songs and people talking about him and his music and really felt sad that he was gone. Just as sad as I felt when the foreigners got attacked in South Africa, just as sad as I was when the Air France plane fell. Human tragedy always affects me.

Sunset

On another day in Cape Town. Maybe I must move to Australia, or America and live with my cousin.

Times are tuff

Where am I going

I don't know what to do with myself, and what to do with my professional career. I am in a position at the moment, where I work for a very good company, that looks after its staff members. I sell a really good product, that almost sells itself. The problem is I am not enjoying my job. The basic day to day function of my job is so frustration, that I find myself on Monday mornings wanting to cry when I have to go to work.

I cant help but think, every day, that I do not want to be in this same position when I am 35 or 36. I do not want to be a 35 year old sales rep who is still trying to get 20 sales calls a week of new business. Where am I going to find the new business in 2 or 3 years time. I am feeling so frustrated and upset, because I really don't know what to do. I am not a corporate new business executive. I am a Key Account Manager. I like looking after accounts and making sure the relationships are strong and keeping business.

So my issue at the moment is, do I go for another job, again, where I have the job description that I enjoy and I love my job, but I might not have the great treatment or great company I work for now. Or do I stay at the great company that really looks after me, with a fantastic product, but I hate my job everyday....

The other personality

There is a side of me that comes out on occasion. Its the dark side. The side that makes me such an unpleasant person, where I scream, swear and throw things around. This side of me only really comes out when I have to do cold calling. Its the worlds most horrific thing. It forces me to speak and interact with idiots, who I would normally avoid. Its not so much the shooting down that gets to me, its the same F@#* answer all the time. At the moment the answer of the month is: "because of the financial climate, we are cutting down on travel". I have a HUGE surprise for your company. You are not going to make it. If you had to wait for someone to tell you there is trouble, and if you sit and pity yourself over it, you are going to go down in flames.

Cold calling turns decent, God-fearing people into absolute snarling, drooling, screaming monsters.

I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Human Nature

I had the privilege once again today to witness human nature at work. Standing at a till point at the local supermarket, there was a lady ahead of me finishing off by paying. The lady behind the till swiped her card and eventually said to her that the swipe machine requested them to phone her bank for authorization. This was when human nature kicked in:

The woman paying was visibly distraught, and kept on saying: "Its a credit card, you don't need authorization". The human nature aspect of her argument was clear when she started defending herself by making it very clear to everybody around her that there is more than enough money in the card and nobody has ever needed to phone for authorization. It was vitally important to her that everyone understood that she had enough money.

She was trying so hard to blame the machine, or the lady behind the till, that she completely lost all sense of reality. She was adamant that a credit card always goes through, and that you never need to phone for authorization. This is the human psyche. She was so concerned that people around her would think that she doesn't have money.

Very healthy lunch

Courtesy of a work collegue, I am having steak, potato and salad for lunch!

Poetic Justice

This morning I experienced justice at work. While driving to work on Seapoint beach road, I was in a lane going straight and a mini bus taxi was in a turning lane, and sped away to cut in front of everybody and go straight. I saw this happening and sped up to stop him from cutting into my lane also. So while I was staying with him, a mother in a read half loaf kiddy-wagon, pulled out of her parking spot and in front of the taxi, forcing him to brake, hard, and hoot at her. I just started laughing and drove off. Finally they get what they do to us. I am pretty sure he just went past her and drove on doing exactly what he does, but at least for the one minute he felt the frustration we feel daily....

On the freeway

One of the ladies in my office came to work yesterday morning in a state. She drives to work on the N1 freeway from the Northern suburbs and in bumper to bumper traffic. Apparently she yesterday and Wednesday morning she saw a gentleman standing in the bushes on the centre aisle of the freeway, masturbating. She was giggling but really disgusted.

Now I know there are a whole bunch of people who get off on doing that in public, hell there are websites devoted to it. I think its cool for people to get turned on by whatever turns them on. The problem is that you don't really want to scare others or get arrested. I thought it was hilarious, but am sure if I had to see it, I would have been very upset. Unless he was hot!!!

The hot boy, with the snot

This morning I got into a lift to go to my first appointment. I noticed this really nice looking guy standing right in the front of the lift. I scanned him a bit, to see what kind of clothes he was wearing, of course. He had a pair of black pants on, little tight over the bum, but a nice ass none the less. That's when I noticed it. on his back pocket of his pants, smeared over the button of the pocket, a nice line of snail see through snot. At first I thought it might be something else, but it was definitely snot. I wanted to take a picture but lift, confined space, limited floors and time, I couldn't. Naturally, he lost all appeal and became very ugly, very fast.

Moral of the story.....

CHECK YOUR CLOTHES BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME BOYS!!!!!

So this is what traffic cops do....

They fine innocent road users for going a little faster on a freeway on ramp so that they don't go onto the freeway at 10km/h.......

Life lessons from a 90 year old

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25 No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27 Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift

Still my fav story ever

Its the mouse thing again

Yesterday afternoon I fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV. When I woke up, I woke up to a dead mouse in the middle of the room. Again I was horrified, because I felt how the cat was playing with it while I was asleep and I thought he was just playing around. I went to get some paper to pick it up with, and as I am taking it to the toilet to flush it, I found it is still moving. I look closer and it is panting furiously and is in absolute shock and lying dead still. I did not know what to do with myself. Admittedly I did give the cat a little kick as I walked past him and then put the mouse in the garden. I know he was going to die anyway, but there is no reason why he cant die in a nice garden without being tortured to death. Needless to say this morning when we woke up, the mouse was lying in our room, now dead.

Again. I KNOW CATS CATCH MICE!!!! I am not stupid. I just don't understand why they have to torture them and play with them. Catch it, kill it and eat it or get rid of it. I wonder how the cat would feel if it had to be caught by a human, and let go, only to get slammed down with claws as soon as it starts running thinking it is free. Its sick. Cats are evil. And torturing another animal is not natural. In the human world you can get killed for that, why do we accept it in the animal world?

One thing is for sure, the cats are not winning any favour from me. In fact they are alienating me more.

Days like today

I hate days like today. Outside the weather is odd. Its sort of hot, but its over cast and its hazy and rain and cold is looming. Inside I am getting flu, and I am all snotty. I am also trying to get my sales calls for this month sorted out. I had to make flight and car reservations for next month to Johannesburg and Durban, just to fill the day up. I hate days where I have no work out of the office. Office days suck!!!

So we (work and I) have decided to go to Johannesburg once a month now as there is allot of business out there. It was a decision from my side because it solves my problem of trying to find people in Cape Town to meet with me, and there is allot more business up in Johannesburg for hotels based in Cape Town, then in Cape Town. From work side, I am scoring big time brownie points as I show the drive to work and even go to Johannesburg once a month to get the business.

We (Tristan and I) will asses the situation and if it takes strain on our relationship, I will stop immediately. Now to try and get off work early coz I have nothing to do here now!!!

Cats vs. Me

On Sunday night, I finally got revenge for the mouse that Tefnut killed a few days ago. I was busy in the lounge and heard a cat in the passage growling. When I got up to go have a look at what was going on, I saw Khensu with a mouse in his mouth, trying to intimidate Tefnut, who clearly wanted to steal it from him. I started to chase him around to take the mouse away, but he ran into the spare room. There we played a little game of me chasing him, and him chasing the still alive mouse. It was torment on the mouse. Eventually I cornered him and the mouse ran between my legs and away, and he could not get to the mouse in time. I felt great!!! I saved the mouse that I could not save previously when Tefnut played with it and killed it in the neighbours garden.

Later that day Tristan messaged me that he had to take a dead mouse away from Khensu, and later in the day he had to take a second one away. So he clearly got me back.....TWICE!!!!!!!

The end to a busy week.

I asked my man to check me in online today at around 16:00 for my 19:00 flight, but for some reason he was unable to do so. Thank heavens I decided to phone BA to check me in. Prudence very nicely informed me that she could not see my name on the flight. She offered to investigate and phone me back. About 5 min later she phoned me back with the worste news ever. I had gone and booked myself on a flight on Thursday night and not Friday night. After she contacted the ticketing department, she informed me that I have to pay an additional R835 for a flight tonight. I contacted my boss who had a good chuckle and then told me to take it as I had to get home. Now the problem was the R800 which I didn't have. Enter my mom who very graciously gave me the money but only after I assursed her it will be paid to her on Monday. Ass saved and having a coffee to calm the nerves on my way home. They say travel agents should never make their own booking as they make the worst travel agents. I guess that goes for ex travel agents also!

A little purchase

I had to go and buy these yesterday at a very unexpected R500. I left mine at gym two nights ago and nobody at gym had seen them. I am convinced somewhere a cleaner is cleaning the gym showers wearing a pair of very expensive Adidas tekkies!

Only in my family...

My niece has a bird (I can't spell its breed's name) called Pietie. This is him eating his morning corn flakes out of his dog bowl.

Kitch not so Kool

Driving down one of the main roads in Pretoria I saw this restaurant today. What you can't see just off picture to the right, is a big statue of a Roman looking soldier. I don't know what type of restaurant this is, but it is a huge monument of the South African, Afrikaans, lack of taste and style. I am not saying we are the only ones who do this, but we are surely one of the few nations who are proud of it.

Seen in Midrand

This is a Russian Orthodox Church in the middle of nothing. As amazing as this church is, it raises the question... How many Russians live here to justify this ornate kind of church!

The world in trouble

I have been watching Sky news this morning, and yes, maybe I shouldn't have done that, but it seems to me that there are a few very big things happening in the world at the moment. The biggest of these is of course the Air France plane going down over the Atlantic ocean. Yes, at first I did think that it landed on the "Lost" island, due to the shroud of mystery around it. In cases like this where an aircraft carrier falls or crashes, people all over the world talk about it, and are affected by it. The question as to why was raised on the radio this morning. I think its because it is such a big amount of people at once that dies, and that you pretty much know that when a plane crashes, the possibility of survival is zero. I think this is why we are so affected by this. It is after all a huge disaster, covered in suspense and mystery. At first the plane disappeared form radar with no contact or mayday, then the lightning theory, and now they cant find the plane. Its a human tragedy of note.

Then there is the GM collapse. Now this affects me in that it makes the world recession a little more real to me. GM was one of the US's greatest independent companies, and was a US icon. Now because people are just not buying any more cars, that manufacturer is going bust. Thousands of jobs will be lost and a icon of our times will be lost. Lucky the South African division is completely independent and is in no trouble financially at all.

I am a little worried about the state of the world today. Maybe I am just upset about the plane crash and the fact that I am in Joburg and not with my family in Cape Town.

Joburg pollution

This is what Joburg looks like in the morning. Polluted and disgusting.

At the airport

Cape Town International has got a new system for travellers. They thought the best way to streamline the security check system, it to make only one security point, and let everybody snake through it to get to the 10 checkpoints. This all sounds very sophisticated and 1st world, however the problem is that this system operates in South Africa. So there is only 3 checkpoints working and about 5 people showing you where to walk. This causes a line to form all the way into and past the check in counters. I must admit though that the line did move quite east and we were lab rats for a very short period. Well off to happy Joburg again!
