World Series Baseball

So the Yankees did it again. Last night they won the World Series for the 27th time. What an achievement. Newspaper articles are branding them the World Champions.....well lets just see which other world teams they beat to win this title.....Oh wait, NONE.....This is an American sport, with a tournament in America, for American teams, and they call it the World Series.....

God (please) bless America.

Americans and War

Ok, I need an American to explain this to me, because I am getting all sorts of interesting info from the TV.

In 2001, the USA led a offensive in Afghanistan that overthrew their regime and started the "New Afghanistan" that is now terrorist free. Since then, the US has lost thousands of soldiers there to insurgence that want the US to leave.

My question is this: How many American citizens thinks that it is a good thing that their partners, parents and children are dying in a war that was started by them, and has no factual or real reason for it?

I was watching a program on Discovery channel last night about a remote emergency army hospital in Afghanistan where doctors and nursing staff battle to save the lives of soldiers who get hurt in the war. On the program, one of the nurses said she was there, because she is saving American soldiers, who give up their lives for the people back home.

Now according to me, it is not even remotely as noble as that. The soldiers are there, because some bureaucrats in Washington have lied to the public and the world and because this is the poor soldiers job. Not because they are saving American lives. This is my concern, and again, I hope that many Americans can prove me wrong here (Ginger, step in). Are the Americans really happy and proud of these soldiers who are fighting because they were told to? Are the Americans really convinced that they are doing a noble thing? Are the Americans really convinced that the war is a good thing, and that they should police the entire world.

I know I am rambling on, but it just seems like the American public has stopped fighting for whats right, and are now protecting what they did wrong. It seems like they are trying to convince themselves that their "boys" are in Afghanistan doing the right thing, so they support them, instead of fighting to get them back home and out of harms way where politicians have placed them for the sake of...well I don't really quite know why!!!!

The void the Americans left

Now anybody that knows me very well, will know that traditionally I am not very fond of Americans. Granted, my dislike of them has been based on an extremely bad government and horrible foreign relations policies. I have also only been introduced to the travelling Americans who are fat, obnoxious and loud. My reason for never visiting the US, has been a one man protest against their government trying to play policemen to the world, as well as the arrogance of making it nearly impossible to get a visa.

However....this past week and weekend, has made me change my tone completely. I have met the nicest Americans ever, and although they are just as loud as I am, and sometimes talk waaayyyy to fast for me to understand them, they are such sincere and down to earth people. I loved spending time with them, and at the moment am missing them all so much as they are exploring their way through the Kruger National Park.

Add the fact that my closest cousin (brother) is moving to the US after his marriage to one this weekend, means I ma going to have to go there now. And to tell the truth, I cant wait to go and see everybody again.

So to all my new found American friends, I miss you all, and hope to see you all again soon.

The great black (White) hope

It always amazes me how the Americans regard themselves and their country as the only place on earth. Was forced to watch the inauguration of Barak Obama yesterday and some of the remarks that came from the presenters where things like: "this is the first time in history that a black man has taken power in the world...." Have they never heard of a little continent called AFRICA!!!! Or does it just not matter.

And what is this sick obsession of South Africans with the new American president. Do we all want to jump onto the bandwagon and praise the first African president of the USA.... in the words of a very well known TV ad....WE'VE BEEN HAVING IT!!!! Our country and the entire Africa has been having African presidents since forever. Get over it.

A new black American president is going to do nothing for our situation.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is way over due and about time that the US appoints a black man as a president, and the fact that he is an extremely focused and dedicated man with phenomenal vision for the future, is a great bonus. That being said, America is miles away form South Africa and I don't think his appointment will bring huge change to our country like everybody seems to think.
