Cape Town Weather

Now this is why I am going walking in the Pyrenees Mountains in Spain, in the middle of their winter. Its 7:50 in the morning, and its 23 degrees. I want to vomit. Who the hell can function in weather like this? If its 23 at 8:00 in the morning, can you imagine what it will be like at 12:00. Probably 31!!! At least we don't have as much humidity as KZN (Kwazulu-Natal for the out of country readers). Sorry Wozzel & Poppy, but that is just the worst weather ever. From September to April, I do not want to go anywhere near Durban. You can not hold down a sales job, driving from client to client, in that weather, and still feel and look glamorous. You can never have long flowing locks of hair coz it will ALWAYS stick to your forehead. Give me rainy, cold, snow, cloudy weather any day. I cant wait to get out of this oven into the fridge in Spain.

Glorious Ascension

Its Ascension day and I got up very early to got to a 07:00 church service this morning. While getting ready, I saw the most spectacular lightning flashes dancing across the sky, illuminating the earth and that blue-white flash. This continued for the better part of an hour and while we were sitting in church. When the pastor started speaking, the thunder started rolling in, loudly, and as confirmation of this day, the heavens opened up and it started to rain. It rained for exactly the same time as the sermon was, and then it stopped. On the way back to the office, I noticed that the ocean was this dark, deep indigo blue, and there were pockets of yellow sunlight over the mountains like in the picture above. After I had taken this picture and drove off, a rainbow started to form in this sunlight pocket. Dark and very vivid colours inside this orange globe. Today the weather is hot but cloudy and rainy. Its like a Durban winter!!!

What a glorious day to celebrate the Lords power.

Last night

Last night must have been the hottest night ever. Everybody in our house were mad!!! We struggled to go to sleep, Lucca vomited because of the heat, Leche could not settle down, the cats were lying anywhere on the floor to get some cool, and we had to have the noisy fan on most of the night.

It was revolting, and I don't think I will get through another evening of that again.

Joburg still the best

If anybody ever tells me that Cape Town has the best weather, I will spit in their eye and call them a liar. To give you an idea. Joburg winters are perfect. It is very cold from about 16:00 to about 22:00 and then it gets sub zero from 22:00 to 09:00, but from 10:00 to 16:00 the sun is shining, you can wear just a jersey and sometimes not even a jersey. So when you are sleeping and can cuddle and warm yourself up, the weather is perfect for that, but during the day you are warm enough to survive. Cape Town winters are rainy, cold, wet, windy and unpleasant. For days on end. I hear you screaming SUMMER SUMMER!!! Yes then there are summers. Joburg summers are hot. About 30 degrees and up from about 09:00 to 14:00, then you get the most spectacular thunderstorms, followed by a cooling rain storm, so you can sleep at night. It is true that sometimes the rain doesn't come, but you can still sleep because for about 4 hours, there was cloud cover and no sun. In Cape Town the summers are extremely hot and smokey. There is no rain or cloud to calm the heat down. There is a gail force wind, but that just blows hot air at high speeds and destroys your hair. Then we have the fires. Every summer, without fail, some part of the big mountain burns down and pollutes the whole of Cape Town for days on end. We had another huge fire in GORDONS BAY, about 50km from Cape Town, and for two days, Cape Town was covered in smoke. Its a joke. This province should be clumped with Durban in terms of weather, coz as we know, Durban just has crap, hot, sticky weather all the time. A clear indication that Joburg weather is the best for all types, all year round.

The weather and school

On my way to work today I saw the most heart wrenching thing ever. Stoped at a red light in Adderley street, next to Die Groote Kerk (its in Adderley street), I saw a little girl between 8 and 10 years old, dressed in her school clothes with an umbrella, as it is pelting down, walking to school. The problem is, along with this heavy rain in mid November, there are gale force winds blowing all over Cape Town leaving the streets full of tree left overs. So as this girl walks over the red light (behaviour she sees from grown ups), and barely misses getting killed, she gets to the other side, and tries to turn the corner, but a gust of wind blows and blows her umbrella inside out. So there she is, standing on the corner, a little girl in her maroon tracksuit with a hoody, getting drenched, with an inside out umbrella, still smiling and making her way to school. Even I got a little lump in my throat after seeing that!

A glorious morning

It has been a very good few days. Yesterday I got R5 in the parking machine that someone left behind, I signed up a corporate company that is going to bring us big bucks, I got a load of appointments set up, Lucca's ears have been doing very well, growing nice scabs and he was being very calm and not shaking too much. Then this morning happened. I woke up to Lucca shaking his scabs off and bleeding all over the place again. I know I have said this many times, but I really cant explain how I feel. I am so fed up with this. There must be something else to be done!!! I have never seen any dog with this issue for so long, so there must be a way of stopping it. Then there is the weather this morning. Its all rainy and cloudy and I have to be at work. Its the perfect weather to be at home under the duvet watching Dstv. I just feel so helpless, and if one more person tells me "there is nothing you can do about it, so stop stressing about it" I am going to punch them in the gut. OF COURSE I STRESS ABOUT IT, HE IS MY BABY!!!! Even more so because I cant do anything about it. I want to go home and sleep...
