Memories of another life

We have a local radio station that has a slot every night where the DJ plays 30min of non stop dance music. I always catch this on my way home from gym and last night my favourite DJ ever, DJ Euphonic, played an amazing set. It brought back so many good memories. Memories of a little place called Therapy Lite, outside with the stars shining above. Of a funky girl called Coco, of dancing innocently until the small hours of the day. Of driving my blue jeep, of Graham and Carl and Christmas lunches. A time of reckless flirting and then going home. Of Ann the lesbian / straight girl who slept with my boyfriend. Of Burnam Business College. A time of innocence and of fun. A time I want to be back in because it was such a good time of my life. However, I know it is impossible to have that back, even if I went back to Johannesburg and hooked up with these people again. I will never get it back. It was a time and a place and a section of my life, and it will never be the same again, and I will never get it back again.

So I will concentrate on my life right now, which is pretty good...

First day back

Today is the first day back at work in Cape Town, after I have been in Joburg for business the last week. I had such excitement in my veins while in Joburg, as business went so well, and I was out and busy the entire time and never really had any time to sit or do anything. In my car all the time and driving around from meeting to meeting. Now back in the Cape Town office, I have lost all of that enthusiasm, and want to go home and sleep. I really need to get myself motivated to work here in Cape Town, and just go balls to the wall and start phoning everybody i can get my hands on.

Problem is in Cape Town, people are already busy going into Christmas mode, and want to only see me in next year.

What to do...

Joburg Drivers

I thought I got annoyed with Cape Town drivers...until I got to Joburg. At least in Cape Town we stick to the rules of the road, al be it slow. In Joburg, nobody sticks to the rules of the road. They create two lanes where there is really just enough space for one car, they weave through traffic at high speed, the taxis get onto the freeway, in the fast lane and stays there until they die, driving at 40km per hour. Then there are the traffic circles. I will never let anybody ever again tell me that Capetonians don't know how to use a traffic circle. EVERYBODY in Joburg uses traffic circles as a four way stop. GO AND RE-DO YOUR LICENCES. When you get to a traffic circle, you give way to the right, no matter if you stand there for hours waiting for everybody to go past you. Some silly cow nearly T-boned me because she thought it was her turn to go, and then started shouting at me. Joburg drivers need to learn the K53...that's that little book you learn out of to get your licence. Find it in CNA!!!

Good Bye

Its always so difficult for me to leave Joburg and go home, even if I don't like it here anymore. Its difficult because I have to leave my family behind again. Its difficult because I only get one night in about 6 months with my family. I miss them so much and its like loosing a family member or a loved one every time I leave. I feel sad because I think about how my folks are getting older and how they are stuck here in this crime ridden invested city, and I fear for their safety. I get sad because my sister, who cant fend for herself, drives around alone and is vulnerable, and has a daughter who has to grow up in this horrible place.

Every time I leave Joburg to go home, I feel like I am leaving another piece of me behind. Will I ever be ok to leave my family and return home? Saying good bye is the saddest thing at the best of times, but when I say good bye to my family, its like I die a little inside.

Start of week

So its another Monday, after the great birthday weekend, and once again I am feeling very melancholic. Its because it is a Monday, and I spent the night alone last night, and I am going to Joburg tomorrow for the whole week, so I will be away from home and my guys, and from everything once again for an entire week. Why is it so horrible on a Monday? Why cant we have another day as part of the weekend? At least I will be seeing my family again.
